Podcast with Vernon Everitt

Vernon Everitt, Transport Commissioner for Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), sat down with Transit Unplugged host Paul Comfort to discuss everything from transport to guitars. As an advocate for public transport, Vernon said, “transport is an enabler of so much else – of economic growth, of creating jobs and housing and social inclusion.”

Vernon started his career in transport in 2007 with TfL before joining TfGM in 2022, where he is working alongside Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to deliver a franchised bus network in the city. Greater Manchester is growing – the population expanded by nearly seven percent over the last 10 years. That’s nearly one percent higher than the rest of the country. And this ever-growing population will require a reliable, sustainable bus network to transport them around. That is where franchising comes in.
